The final report from the Victorian Government’s Taskforce on Rehoming Pets has been released, listing a number of recommendations.

RSPCA Victoria provided a submission advocating for a number of the resulting recommendations, including improvements to the regulatory framework for rehoming pets, that will work to improve the welfare of dogs and cats requiring rehoming.

The Taskforce, made up of Member for Western Victoria Andy Meddick, Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards, and Member for Narre Warren South Gary Maas, made a total of 17 recommendations since being launched on 30 March 2021.

The Taskforce investigated how to improve and better support rehoming pathways for dogs and cats in Victoria, including those used in medical research.

RSPCA Victoria said they are pleased to see the regulation of rescue groups has been included in the recommendations from the Taskforce, and that this will help ensure all animal care groups are transparent and adhere to the same standards.
