The Pet
Industry Association of Australia (PIAA) represents some
670 small to large pet industry businesses across
Australia. PIAA is growing in parallel with the pet
industry. As part of PIAA’s role in promoting and
protecting the industry it is expanding member
activities
including advocacy and the development of standards and
training across the various pet and membership business
categories (e.g. retail). The Development Officer will
have an important role in implementing strategies
related to these areas. The Officer will also contribute
to membership growth through the development and
management of stakeholder relationships.
In
this role you will facilitate, manage and implement
improvements to industry knowledge, standards and
training. These improvements specifically relate to the
PIAA business accreditation scheme; the PIAA Code of
Practice (with a strong animal welfare focus), consumer
issues, policy and position statements; training and
promoting industry knowledge to members. You will be an
effective advocate for the industry and represent the
PIAA on state and national committees. You will
contribute to industry networking and cohesion and
contribute to PIAA management and operations. You will
work as part of a small team reporting to the CEO.
The position requires good writing skills (reports,
submissions etc); verbal communication and presentation
skills; the ability to work with a diverse range of
stakeholders and demonstrated skills and interest in
research, planning and project management. It is highly
desirable the applicant has related industry experience
and a commitment to the benefits of companion animals.
Specific knowledge and experience with one or more of
dogs, cats, ornamental fish or reptiles in an industry
environment is highly desirable.
