Austrade Exhibitors delighted with Interzoo 2008!

Austrade Exhibitors and Austrade stand organisers smile for the camera

Interzoo—the world’s largest trade fair—wrapped up its 30th show on Sunday the 25th of May, 2008, and it was bigger than ever.  Thousands of people flocked into the venue throughout the day, and, according to most accounts, Australian exhibitors were extremely pleased with the business conducted at the show. 1,436 exhibitors (that’s 13 percent more than the last show) from 54 countries displayed their products to more than 37,000 trade visitors in an overwhelming exhibition space of over 89,000 square metres – and boy did feet get sore!

According to Wirtschaftsgemeinschaft Zoologischer Fachbetriebe GmbH (WZF), the Interzoo promoter, about 77 percent of the companies were from abroad. Apart from Germany, the most strongly represented exhibiting nations were Italy, China, USA, Netherlands, Great Britain, Belgium, France and Spain.

Although Australians may not have dominated the show, there were some familiar faces on the Austrade stand, which was kept running smoothly with the immense support of Stefan Augustin and Deborah Ponzio from Austrade. Among the Aussies at Interzoo this year were Aristopet, Dogue, Fido’s Pet Care, Funky Pets, Gummi Pet Products, Hungry Hound Pet Food, Litter Kwitter, Lovitt’s, Paw Stars, Pet Industry News, The Pet Loo, ShiBoo, VCA and Walkies.

Thousands of visitors flock into Interzoo 2008

Hans-Jochen Büngener, Chairman of the Interzoo Exhibition Committee, was equally pleased with the event: “Once again Interzoo has been confirmed as the leading fair for the pet supplies industry. Without exception the exhibitors are very satisfied with business at the 30th Interzoo. They are reporting valuable new contacts and successful sales transactions. In connection with the anniversary fair the companies put on especially attractive presentations and showed a global range of high product quality with numerous innovations.”

New trend products were presented mainly in the areas of healthy, organic nutrition, fitness products and accessories incorporating modern design elements. “Numerous new grooming and nutrition articles for our animals, adapted and geared to breed and age, are conquering the market. The further development of pet foods and health products is making an active contribution to animal welfare,” said Klaus Oechsner, President of the Zentralverband Zoologischer Fachbetriebe e.V. (ZZF), the sponsor of Interzoo.

Hans-Jochen Büngener sees indications of an upward trend in the zoological specialist trade: “The latest consumer surveys indicate a positive mood among consumers. With its ranges the industry is not only endeavouring to satisfy pet lovers’ increasing requirements, but is also creating new possibilities and new demand potential with its wealth of ideas and innovativeness.”

As the international trade fair for pet supplies, Interzoo was exclusively open to visitors from the specialist trade, veterinary medicine, official authorities and specialist, commercial user sectors such as pet clinics, pet boarding houses, pet grooming salons and similar establishments.

The next show will be held from 13 to 16 May 2010 at the Nuremberg Exhibition Centre. For further information, go to the official Interzoo website at www.interzoo.com or click here to see photos of the Australian Exhibitor stands.

Pet Trade Shows coming up

Why become a member of PIAA?

Did you know the secret? Pet Industry Association Members are the only people in the Pet Industry that voluntarily commit to a stringent Code of Practice to maximise the welfare of pets and their products.

Representing the entire breadth of the industry that loves pets, from breeders of fish through to pet shops and funeral services, Members of the Pet Industry Association share a common belief – that all Australians who can responsibly own a pet should be able to do so.

This means that the Pet Industry Association members “stand up to be counted” against the “anti-pet lobby” in all states, who pursue legislation, Council rules and “anti-pet” media.

The benefits of owning pets are well known and include longer life spans, lower blood pressure, enhanced social interaction – all meaning that loving a pet is good for you and good for society.

That is why the Pet Industry Association members commit to a voluntary Code of Practice ensuring the best animal welfare for your pets and your pet needs. Some Members even progress to the highest level of professionalism  - accreditation- the gold standard of professionalism for the industry.

In the last few months, the Pet Industry Association has experienced a rapid rise in membership – proof that Pet Industry members value the highest standards and want to demonstrate this to the public. Look for the logo – that means that your pet supplier really is a Pet Care Professional.

- Joanne Sillince, Chief Executive Officer, PIAA
